Two PhD scholarships supported by Australian Research Council are available in the area of XML data integration in the School of Computer and Information Science, the University of South Australia. Each scholarship is A$24000.00 per annum for three years.
Successful applicants will be working in the area of XML data integration. In this area, XML data in many applications needs to be integrated from multiple data sources in which data may be independently represented. One important issue in the integration is to consider if one document from a data source has the same structure as that of a document from another data source and if two documents carry the same semantics (keys and other constraints). To answer this question, we need to define the equivalence data schemas. Following this are the problems of how comparisons should be conducted among two schemas and how semantics impacts on the equivalence.
Applicants are expected to meet the following requirements:
1. have done the bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering, or possibly in other related areas;
2. have obtained an honours degree or a master-by-research degree. Master-by-Coursework applicants who have done a research project of at least 18 units (full time half year) and had publications may be considered;
3. have got at least a Distinction average (>=80%) in both bachelor's study and honours (master) study;
4. can meet the enrolment requirements of the University of South Australia. Note that applicants who are not Australian citizens or Australian Permanent Residents need to have the IELTS score of 6.5 and to pay a tuition fee each year (for the fee detail, please see http://www.unisa.edu.au/prospective/Program/fees.asp).
5. Applicants who meet above requirements and have had publications will be considered first.
